On a summer break during university, a number of us were selected to embark on the Asian Leadership Programme to Hangzhou for three months. While I was there I selected to do a study on bamboo culture and studied under a bamboo ratten sculptor and master.

Under his guidance we were taught the different steps of harvesting and processing raw bamboo into strips for sculpting. After two weeks learning and studying his methods, we were then tasked to design and create our own product utilizing bamboo.

I designed a bamboo speaker, which intially was supposed to simply amplify a phone's speaker when placed into the holder. However, after creating it and studying the acoustics of the bamboo further I realised that it was not as good and installed a bluetooth speaker into it instead.
